Facilitation Skills
Introduction
Meetings involve individuals from diverse backgrounds and levels in every organisation. Each individual bringing to the meeting arena various skills, knowledge and attitudes. In addition, often as not, their own agenda. For meetings to be both effective and productive individuals that are charged with the responsibility of organising and chairing meetings must demonstrate key skills. This workshop covers such key aspects and allows delegates to explore appropriate tools and techniques.
Format
Training will be held in a relaxed, friendly environment, which is conducive to the learning process. Delegates will be actively encouraged to take part in every aspect. The whole period will be highly participative with formal trainer input being complemented by exercises, discussions and regular feedback sessions.
Delegates will need to log the main learning points as the workshop progresses. This will enable them to not only ensure that objectives are being met, but help in the formulation of workplace action plans.
Aims
This one day workshop aims to allow delegates to understand, explore and apply the key principles of organising, controlling and facilitating meetings.
Objectives
By the end of the workshop delegates will return to the workplace better able to:
• Understand the need for effective facilitation of meetings.
• Understand and put into practice the key stages of preparing and running effective meetings.
• Understand the key roles and responsibilities of meeting participants.
• Demonstrate and put into practice typical skills and qualities of an effective Chairperson /
Facilitator.
• Demonstrate effective communication, listening and discussion leading skills.
• Deal effectively with potentially difficult situations and demonstrate appropriate assertive
behaviour.
• Recognise and deal with group dynamics / behaviour in an assertive manner and the
demonstration of appropriate leadership styles.
